Mohamed Kane

Mohamed Kane is an Ivorian second year Computer Science student at MIT. He grew up using tools such as Microsoft Encarta, Wikipedia, and dictionaries to learn about the world surrounding him. This natural curiosity led to an interest and involvement in science and engineering through participation in international and regional math contests as well as in his high school math club. After having learnt about the world and developed a rather static vision of society, he started questioning it in 9th and 10th grade after being exposed to documentaries highlighting social injustice, the drawbacks of capitalism and global warming. This questioning was translated by an involvement in his community through student council and other extra-curricular activities. In his sophomore year at MIT, Mohamed decided to go further by exploring how entrepreneurship can be a used as a source of constructive criticism to society. He got involved with a project to bring a leasing model for medical equipment in Nigeria and another designed to reduce the cost of international shipping by harnessing air traffic. Through this involvement, Mohamed discovered that the entrepreneur’s journey is full of hardships, rewards and doubts. He is looking forward to meet like-minded fellows at the MIT 2015 Global Startup Workshop.
