Panel: Fostering Entrepreneurship

img

Despite the fact that entrepreneurship has caught on as an academic discipline in numerous colleges and universities, many aspiring entrepreneurs, both in and out of the classroom, often feel stymied by a lack of confidence or inspiration when it comes to getting their own startups off the ground. This problem is particularly acute in Central America, where university graduates are often encouraged to join established companies rather than take a risk on a startup. Moreover, many would-be entrepreneurs are often deterred by what they see as requisite ‘first steps’ to a startup – waiting around until a “killer” idea is obtained, and then raising thousands or even millions in seed funding in order to execute on it.

This panel will aim to introduce workshop attendees – students, faculty, budding entrepreneurs – to a variety of foundational tools, methods, and ways of thinking that they can utilize in future, whether it be to proceed with their own ventures or foster a culture of entrepreneurship in their home universities/cities/towns.
