Founder and CEO, M2t

Mourad, founder and CEO of M2t, grew up in Lisbon, Portugal until he was 11 and then in Casablanca, the biggest cosmopolitan hub and economic capital of Morocco, with entrepreneurship in his blood. After receiving a mechanical engineering degree from San Diego State University in 1986, Mourad returned to Morocco to work as an IT consultant while also running his family’s agriculture equipment trading and distribution business.

In 1989, Mourad worked for Moror SA where he gained experience in international trade, mainly exports to Austral Africa, eventually working his way up to become the Managing Director. After three years, Mourad started a foods & drinks import & distribution company allowing him to know and understand the retail network of the country.

Then, Mourad worked as country manager for an affiliate of Japan Matsushita importing & distributing Panasonic goods. In this role Mourad improved his overall management and strategic expertise.

Afterwards, Mourad began working for Lottomecanica, and introduced Morocco to real time processing of scratch cards, sports betting and the lottery, thus gaining knowledge in real time secure transaction processing. These numerous roles taught Mourad about the country’s financial landscape and the population’s spending habits, distribution environment as well as how to run a successful business.

Then, Mourad was inspired to study and develop the single terminal service model that he had imagined while in Florida to offer payment services to Morocco’s public. From his distribution experience Mourad also thought that he could use the retail shops to pool (mutualise) services in a single one stop proximity shop. Thus, the creation of M2t.

Aside from M2t Mourad acts as an angel investor for start ups in new technologies, web and agricultural business. He is also the honorary Consul of the Republic of Angola, trying to facilitate commercial and cultural exchanges between both countries
