John Erik Metcalf is Co-Founder and Managing Director of Hong Kong based data services company, Demand Analytics. Demand Analytics builds custom tools to help individuals, businesses and governments make better decisions.

He was educated at home by his entrepreneurial parents in Texas. From his father he learned chemistry and physics by restoring large xenon and carbon arc searchlights. With his mother, he learned about the human condition and horticulture while tending gardens. Both taught critical thinking, empathy and the joy of making things.

John was introduced to the startup culture of Silicon Valley in 2005 by working with Tiny Pictures – acquired by Shutterfly (SFLY). Interested in the future of work and the tenets of innovation, he started co-working spaces in Austin (Conjunctured) and Shanghai (88 Spaces) and a non-profit (Startup District). With the notion that innovation occurs in close-knit, forward-thinking groups, the latter helped create a zone in the city of Austin where startups are economically incentivized to base their operations.
